Tuned into Australia's ABC News Radio this morning, and caught the end of an interview with a bloke from the University of South Australia, Doctor or such 'Rocko Zitto', who was telling about his ratings systems of how 'Green' new vehicles are.
So, after being alerted to these factors as written of below, some 20-plus years ago, by a 'Greenpeace' supervisor at their Melbourne offices (where I had signed-up and volunteered to door-knock the 'burbs for Greenpeace membership), I finally saw an hole for me to BLOW my long-pent-up concerns out through.
(I might yet fish-out Rocko's Uni SA email and send him a copy?)

I may have missed these factors, but does he and other ratings' systems include the energy consumption and emissions output of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc stages of THE PRODUCTION of the vehicles?
Ie., does each car's rating include pollution from the factories, and from all machinery etc, in the extraction of raw materials, in the processing of raw materials into plastics, metals, tyres, wiring, etc?
If not, they are worthless assessments and/or ratings systems.
It seems to me, that this is where a large proportion of 'pollution' of vehicles is emitted, and is where 'environmental monitoring' has to focus.
Not knocking Rocko's Work. Good-on-him.
Such factors could, nay-SHOULD, be included in any rating system which the public use to assess how 'Green' any vehicle is.
An answer to these qvestions via email would be appreciated, as well as broadcasting the points on News Radio Et Al.
